Background

Anticipating an accelerating growth of elderly population, The Hong Kong Society for the Aged was established in 1977 to address the raising social and welfare needs of the elderly. Over the past 40 years, SAGE has been striving to serve the elderly with diversified and innovative services to meet their changing needs and thus to ensure they lead a joyful life. SAGE started operation with the first-ever bus service for living alone and hidden elderly in Hong Kong to bring them from rural areas to city to participate in social activities. Making concerted efforts in identifying service gaps, SAGE has been expanding its service scope to fill the gaps. We are now running 29 service units including residential care homes, elderly centres, integrated home care services and active ageing centres widespread in Hong Kong with over 35,000 daily users. SAGE has been delivering high-acclaimed services since its establishment. The citywide Literacy Training Project for the elderly, The Hong Kong Senior Citizen Volunteer Training Project, Care for the Elderly Living Alone, Pain Management Project, Insomnia Treatment Project, dementia services, information and communications technology training and Elder-friendly Employment Practice, etc., have been launched for older people demanding for different services in the fast-changing society. In future, SAGE will continuously uphold professionalism and excellence in serving the elderly.
