Recent years of pandemic and economic downturns have left many in emotional distress and perhaps even contemplating suicide. Last year, there were 1,010 suicide deaths in Hong Kong, nearly half of them were elderly aged 60 or above, that was a 23% increase prior to 5 years. Our 24-hour Suicide Prevention Hotline Service currently handles over 300 calls a day, a record high and reflecting the increasing demand for our services.
Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) is organising its Flag Day on 17 December 2022 (Saturday) in the Hong Kong Island region. The theme “Life is Beautiful” aims to bring hope and positivity to the distressed and encourage them to cherish life and lead an abundant life. Funds raised from flag selling will be used to sustain and enhance our services to support suicidal and distressed individuals. We hope to raise social awareness on suicide and spread the message of cherishing life through this Flag Day.
Please join us with your friends and family to save lives with us by becoming a volunteer or making a direct donation. To acknowledge your support, all volunteers will receive a Certificate of Appreciation.
