While Hong Kong is recognized as a prosperous city, there is an opportunity to support approximately 1,650,000 residents who are facing economic challenges. Notably, one in three individuals in this group is elderly, highlighting the importance of community engagement and assistance. Habitat for Humanity, a global non-profit housing organization, works with volunteers to run ‘Project Home Works’, that seeks to improve home environments and sanitation while building community spirit and hope. The families that partner with us are often elderly or disabled, without a support network, living in public housing estates with government assistance as their only means of income. We coordinate with social services and/or local NGOs to identify the most vulnerable, and Habitat volunteers then work alongside a skilled contractor to create a decent place to live.
